ECG Intensifies Vegetation Clearance in Ashanti Region to Combat Rainy Season Power Outages

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has launched an extensive vegetation clearance and tree-pruning campaign across the Ashanti Region, aiming to significantly reduce power disruptions during the upcoming rainy season. This proactive initiative addresses the persistent problem of overgrown trees and branches interfering with power lines and essential electrical equipment, a common cause of outages during adverse weather conditions.

Addressing a Major Cause of Power Disruptions

According to Kofi Apau Ohenese, Ashanti Sub-Transmission General Manager, falling branches and encroaching vegetation are primary culprits behind feeder trips, unstable voltage levels, and damage to critical power infrastructure. He emphasized the importance of vegetation management, even with ongoing government support for network upgrades.
