Accra, Ghana – May 25, 2026 – In a novel approach to tackling rampant highway robberies, the Ghanaian government has deployed armoured buses disguised as popular commercial transport services like VIP, STC, and OA. This strategy, revealed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, aims to proactively track and apprehend criminals operating on major road networks across the country.

Innovative Security Strategy Unveiled

Speaking at a town hall meeting in Damongo, Savannah Region, on Saturday, Minister Mubarak detailed the operation. The armoured buses are regularly rebranded with different company names to maintain an element of surprise and prevent potential targets, including the robbers themselves, from identifying them.
