Wontumi Defends NPP Chairmanship Bid, Prioritizing Grassroots Connection Over English Fluency

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, is vying for the National Chairmanship of Ghana’s opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), asserting that his extensive experience and connection with the party’s grassroots are more valuable than English language proficiency. Wontumi made these remarks during an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, addressing criticisms regarding his academic credentials and communication style as he aims to lead the NPP towards reclaiming power in the 2028 general elections.

Focus on Service and Electoral Victory

Wontumi dismissed concerns about his English fluency, stating that such criticisms do not deter him. He emphasized that his motivation for seeking the chairmanship is to serve the party and its members, particularly at the grassroots level, rather than to hold a prestigious title or engage in linguistic competitions.
