Fifteen individuals perished and 25 others sustained injuries in a severe head-on collision between a container truck and a passenger bus near Peki-Tsame in Ghana’s Volta Region early Tuesday, June 2, 2026. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded to the scene, located close to Peki Senior High School, to manage the aftermath of the devastating accident.

The crash involved a Mercedes-Benz container truck (WR 1553-C) traveling from Nkwanta towards Accra and a Mercedes-Benz passenger bus (GR 3215-E) en route from Battor to Kabiti in the Oti Region. In total, 40 people were involved: 21 men, 15 women, and four children.
Firefighters from the Peki Fire Station were immediately dispatched and worked to extricate individuals trapped within the mangled wreckage. Their rescue efforts successfully freed 25 injured persons, comprising 23 adults and two children.
These injured individuals were promptly transported to the Peki Government Hospital to receive urgent medical attention. Tragically, 15 people, including nine men and six women, were pronounced dead at the scene. The bodies of the deceased were later handed over to the Ghana Police Service for preservation and identification at the Peki Government Hospital mortuary.
