MomsConnectGH Amplifies Mental Health Support with Accra Psychiatric Hospital Donation

MomsConnectGH, a support network for mothers, organized a donation drive to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital last Saturday, coinciding with Mental Health Awareness Day and Mother’s Day. The initiative, under their outreach program The Hannah Project, aimed to provide essential supplies and welfare items to patients, underscoring the organization’s commitment to vulnerable groups and mental health awareness, particularly among women.

Context: Mental Health Stigma and Maternal Well-being

The donation drive by MomsConnectGH highlights a critical issue: the persistent stigma surrounding mental health conditions, especially those affecting mothers. Postpartum depression, a significant concern, often goes unaddressed due to societal silence, lack of awareness, and insufficient support systems. This situation leaves many mothers struggling in isolation.

MomsConnectGH’s Outreach Initiative

Elizabeth Owusu-Boadi, Co-Partner of MomsConnectGH, explained that the visit to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital was a deliberate act of compassion. The goal was to reach out to individuals facing mental health challenges, particularly women and mothers, and remind them of their value and that they are not forgotten.
