Ashanti Region Faces Scheduled Power Outages for Essential Maintenance

Residents and businesses in several communities across the Ashanti Region are bracing for a temporary power interruption on Sunday, May 3, 2026. The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced scheduled maintenance works to improve the reliability and efficiency of the power distribution network. The outage is expected to last from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Essential Maintenance Underway

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is undertaking critical maintenance on its power infrastructure. These works are deemed necessary to ensure a more stable and efficient electricity supply to the region in the long term. ECG stated that the exercise is aimed at enhancing the overall service delivery to its customers.

Affected Areas Identified

A comprehensive list of communities that will experience the power outage has been released by ECG. These include Bantama, Kwadaso Nsoum, and the Prempeh College area. Other affected locations are Brigade (Complex), Akropong, Nyankyerenease, and Bokankye. Parts of Kokosu, Kegasi Estate, Esaase, and Daaba will also be without power.

Further areas impacted by the maintenance include Owabi, Kwadaso, Asuoyeboah, and Sepaase. Nkawie, Edwenase, and Hiawu-Besease are also on the list. Residents in Old Offinso, Ahenkro, Kwamang, and Akrowa should prepare for the outage. Additionally, Kodie, Apagya, Akrofrom, Kwenkwe, Aduman, Aduamoah, and Denase will experience the interruption.

The Headworks and surrounding areas are included in the maintenance schedule. Notably, Akom and Barekese have also been identified as areas that will face temporary power disruptions.

ECG’s Commitment to Service Improvement

In its official notice, ECG emphasized that the temporary inconvenience is a necessary step towards improving the power supply infrastructure. The company aims to minimize disruptions by scheduling the maintenance during a period that is generally expected to have lower demand, although specific impacts on businesses are acknowledged.

ECG has extended its apologies to all residents and businesses that will be affected by this planned interruption. The company stressed that the maintenance is crucial for the future stability and performance of the power grid within the Ashanti Region.

Precautions and Restoration

Authorities are advising all residents and businesses within the listed communities to take the necessary precautions before the scheduled outage begins. This includes securing sensitive electronic equipment and ensuring that essential services are prepared for a temporary loss of power.

The ECG expects to complete the maintenance works within the designated three-hour window. Power restoration is anticipated to commence immediately after the maintenance activities conclude at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2026. Residents are encouraged to report any issues with power restoration promptly to ECG customer service.
