Ghanaian Students Embark on BECE Amidst Calls for Integrity and Diligence

Over 620,000 candidates across Ghana commenced their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) on Monday, May 4, 2026, facing a crucial test that will determine their academic futures. The examination, overseen by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), is scheduled to conclude on May 11, with a strong emphasis placed on academic integrity this year.

Nationwide Examination Commences

The 2026 BECE officially began today, marking a significant milestone for more than 620,000 students from 20,395 schools nationwide. The examination period, set to last for eight days, is a gateway to secondary education for these young learners.

Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu issued a message of encouragement to the candidates on Monday, May 3. He urged them to approach the examinations with confidence and discipline, drawing strength from their months of preparation and hard work.
