President John Dramani Mahama has called for new legislation to criminalize the practice of demanding romantic or sexual relationships in exchange for employment opportunities. He made these remarks on Saturday, May 3, during an engagement in Adweso, Koforidua, at the conclusion of his two-day Resetting Ghana Tour of the Eastern Region.
The President strongly condemned the exploitative behavior of some employers who allegedly make intimate relationships a prerequisite for offering jobs, particularly targeting women seeking employment. This practice, he stated, is unacceptable and must cease.
Condemnation of Workplace Exploitation
During his address, President Mahama articulated his dismay at the pervasive nature of what he termed as “sex-for-jobs” schemes. He emphasized that such conduct is a severe form of abuse and exploitation within the workplace.
