Accra, Ghana – The fourth edition of the Kaba and Slit Festival concluded on Friday, May 1st, at Legon City Mall, celebrating Ghanaian heritage through fashion, culture, and community engagement under the theme “Old School Meets Batakari.” The event attracted fashion enthusiasts, cultural proponents, entrepreneurs, and creatives for a day of entertainment and traditional appreciation.

A Tapestry of Ghanaian Culture and Fashion

The Kaba and Slit Festival 4.0 transformed the Legon City Mall into a vibrant showcase of Ghanaian identity. The festival aimed to foster a deeper appreciation for traditional attire and cultural practices.

Attendees experienced a rich array of cultural performances, including traditional music and dance. These performances highlighted the depth and beauty of Ghana’s diverse heritage, creating a lively atmosphere throughout the day.

Spotlight on Iconic Attire: Kaba, Slit, and Batakari

A significant draw was the live Kaba and Slit sewing demonstration by Garment Solutions. This segment provided an intimate look at the craftsmanship involved in creating these quintessential Ghanaian garments.

The festival’s theme, “Old School Meets Batakari,” was prominently displayed. Many male attendees donned Fugu, also known as Batakari, the traditional northern smock. This resurgence of the Batakari aligns with renewed national interest, spurred by public figures wearing the attire and sparking conversations online about Ghanaian heritage wear.

Educational and Engaging Experiences

Beyond the visual spectacle, the festival offered valuable educational components. Guests participated in fashion education sessions and styling demonstrations, gaining insights into garment appreciation and presentation techniques.

The event also featured the “Mr. and Mrs. Kaba and Slit” competition, adding an element of fun and friendly rivalry. Traditional and recreational games such as Ampe, Ludu, UNO, and Oware encouraged interaction and participation across all age groups.

Entrepreneurial Spirit and Community Building

Local vendors showcased a variety of products and services, fostering opportunities for creativity, business growth, and entrepreneurship. Certificates of appreciation were awarded to participating vendors for their contributions.

Additional attractions included runway modeling, a horse-riding show, and an energetic dancing competition that captivated the audience. Professional photographers and videographers documented the memorable moments.
