Mothers Hailed as ‘Backbone of Society’ at Ho Central Constituency Celebration

Elsie Appau-Klu, Technical Advisor to the Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), lauded mothers as the “backbone of society” during a Mother’s Day celebration organized by the Women’s Wing of the Ho Central Constituency on May 10, 2026. The event, held in the Volta Region, recognized the pivotal role mothers play in shaping families, communities, and Ghana’s future.

Mothers’ Multifaceted Roles Emphasized

Addressing NDC regional party executives, women leaders, and constituency members, Madam Appau-Klu highlighted that mothers’ influence extends far beyond childbirth. She described them as society’s first teachers, caregivers, and moral compasses.

“In our homes, it is the mother’s voice that teaches respect, discipline, and faith,” Appau-Klu stated. She emphasized that the values instilled in children at a young age shape their character throughout life.

The celebration also acknowledged the significant economic contributions of women within the Ho Central Constituency. Madam Appau-Klu pointed to traders, farmers, seamstresses, food vendors, and small business owners, whose daily sacrifices sustain families and bolster the local economy.

She underscored that every investment mothers make in their children’s education and well-being directly fuels the development of both the constituency and the nation. Furthermore, she recognized women’s crucial role in preserving cultural heritage and community values, particularly through the transmission of the Ewe language and traditions.

“When a community loses the voices of its mothers, it loses its compass,” she remarked, underscoring the irreplaceable nature of maternal influence on societal cohesion.

Call for Increased Women’s Leadership and Advocacy

Madam Appau-Klu urged members of the Women’s Wing to actively support competent women aspiring to leadership roles in upcoming internal party elections. She stressed that women possess the collective power to drive positive social change.

This change, she explained, can manifest through advocating for improved healthcare, education, access to clean water, and enhanced economic opportunities for women and small businesses. “The child you nurture today, the business you run today, and the peace you keep today are all shaping the society we will live in tomorrow,” she told the attendees.

Appau-Klu pledged her continued commitment to advocating for policies and initiatives designed to alleviate the burdens on women, protect their rights, and expand opportunities for women and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within Ho Central.

Event Highlights and Sponsorship

The Mother’s Day event was part of a broader season of activities celebrating women’s contributions to community development and national progress. The festivities culminated in a banquet and the distribution of gifts to women leaders in the constituency.

The event received sponsorship from the Ezel Foundation, an organization dedicated to promoting women’s economic development and empowerment. Ms. Appau-Klu expressed gratitude to Ezel’s clients, whose continued support enables the foundation’s ongoing work in empowering women and youth economically.

Looking Ahead

The emphasis on mothers’ foundational roles in character development, economic contribution, and cultural preservation highlights a growing recognition of their societal importance. The call for increased female leadership and advocacy suggests a strategic focus on empowering women to directly influence policy and community development. The role of organizations like Ezel Foundation in supporting these efforts indicates a trend towards public-private partnerships aimed at fostering women’s economic empowerment. Observers will be watching to see how these sentiments translate into tangible policy changes and increased representation for women in leadership within the Ho Central Constituency and beyond.
