Former Member of Parliament for Adentan, Kojo Adu Asare, has publicly disclosed his arduous six-year struggle with end-stage renal disease, sharing his experiences and offering advice to fellow patients. The veteran politician revealed that his life was significantly impacted by the need for regular dialysis and a subsequent transplant, highlighting the profound physical, psychological, and financial toll of the condition. His testimony was shared on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen on Friday, May 15, 2026.
The Crushing Financial Burden of Dialysis
Mr. Adu Asare detailed the immense financial strain of managing his kidney failure. The current cost of a single dialysis session is GH₵650, and patients typically require three sessions per week. This amounts to approximately GH₵1,950 weekly, or GH₵8,000 monthly, solely for dialysis treatment.
