Accra, Ghana – The AyaSol initiative, a new program designed to foster youth entrepreneurship and bolster Ghana’s burgeoning solar energy sector, officially launched this week at the AGI Sustainable Energy B2B Expo. The initiative aims to bridge the critical gap between technical solar training and the establishment of sustainable businesses for young people.
Bridging the Skills Gap in Renewable Energy
The demand for renewable energy solutions, particularly in rooftop, off-grid, and mini-grid solar systems, is experiencing significant growth across Ghana. Despite this expansion, many technically trained graduates face considerable hurdles in launching and sustaining their own businesses within the solar value chain.
AyaSol seeks to directly address these challenges. Organizers highlighted issues such as inconsistent installation quality, limited access to essential equipment and tools, and fragmented market connections as key barriers for aspiring solar entrepreneurs.
A Comprehensive Support Model
Funded by the Arthur Waser Foundation in Switzerland and spearheaded by Swisscontact Ghana, AyaSol operates in collaboration with the Don Bosco Solar Institute and the Certified Electrical Wiring Professionals Association of Ghana (CEWPAG). This partnership leverages diverse expertise to provide holistic support.
During the launch event, attendees witnessed demonstrations of the AyaSol Seed model. An innovative exhibition container hub showcased practical examples of how youth-led solar businesses can be structured for success, offering a tangible vision for potential entrepreneurs.

Mr. Kofi Anim Ayeko, Manager for Renewable Energy at Swisscontact Ghana, emphasized the sector’s potential to combat graduate unemployment. “The renewable energy sector has the potential to help reduce graduate unemployment in Ghana by creating jobs and business opportunities for young people,” he stated.
The AyaSol initiative is structured to equip beneficiaries with a combination of practical skills, advanced technical training, and crucial business development support. The goal is to empower them to build resilient and profitable careers in the renewable energy industry.
The launch event also served as a vital networking platform, bringing together entrepreneurs, policymakers, development partners, financial institutions, and key industry players.
