Accra, Ghana – May 28, 2026 – The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has refuted claims that residents were not adequately warned prior to the recent spillage of the Weija Dam. Greater Accra Regional Director Dennis Nartey Adjarnor stated on Thursday that NADMO maintained consistent communication with communities downstream before and during the water release, which has subsequently led to widespread flooding in the surrounding areas.
Sustained Communication Efforts
Adjarnor clarified that the dam’s operational maximum capacity is 47 feet. Water began to be released once the level reached 45 feet. He emphasized that NADMO actively informed communities situated along the dam’s banks about the impending spillage.
