Ghana and Jamaica have signed a significant bilateral agreement that will facilitate the deployment of approximately 400 Ghanaian nurses to the Caribbean nation, aiming to bolster its healthcare sector. This landmark accord was a primary outcome of the recently concluded Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation (PJCC) meeting in Accra, marking a revitalization of formal diplomatic ties after a 21-year hiatus.

Revived Diplomatic Engagement

The agreement was announced on Sunday, May 31, 2026, by Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. He highlighted that the deployment would not only enhance healthcare delivery in Jamaica but also create valuable employment and professional development opportunities for Ghanaian healthcare professionals.
