Accra, Ghana – Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Member of Parliament for Assin South and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, has voiced significant concerns regarding 31 amendments introduced to the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill. He argues these changes dilute the original legislative intent, particularly provisions that exempt certain professionals from prosecution. The bill, which recently passed Parliament in 2024 after extensive debate, now faces scrutiny over whether these modifications create loopholes that undermine its core objectives.
Original Intent Under Threat?
Rev. Fordjour, a key proponent of the bill’s initial passage, highlighted his unease with clauses that protect lawyers, journalists, media organizations, healthcare professionals, and counselors. He stated these exemptions were unnecessary, as the original bill did not aim to criminalize legitimate professional services.
