Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC successfully hosted its 2026 Annual Golf Championship last Saturday at the Achimota Golf Club, transforming the event into a premium sporting and lifestyle experience that attracted over 120 golfers, corporate leaders, government officials, and other distinguished guests. The championship served as a vital platform for competition, networking, and showcasing Guinness Ghana’s commitment to community and high-value experiences.
The event, which commenced early Saturday morning, built upon the success of its inaugural edition. It aimed to reinforce Guinness Ghana’s position as a business dedicated to fostering connections between people, brands, sport, and the community. This year’s championship further solidified its status as a significant fixture on Ghana’s sporting and lifestyle calendar.
A Day of Sport and Strategic Partnerships
The day kicked off with participant registration and breakfast, followed by the official tee-off at 6:30 am. A ceremonial tee-off at 8:00 am featured prominent figures including Frédéric Féraille, Managing Director of Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC; Dr. Felix Elvis Addo, Board Chairman of Guinness Ghana; Leonard Kweku Okyere, President of the Ghana Golf Association; Emmanuel Quarcoo, Captain of Achimota Golf Club; and Ishmael Yamson, Board Chairman of MTN.
Throughout the competition, a relaxed yet competitive atmosphere prevailed. Golfers enjoyed refreshment stations strategically placed on the course, ample opportunities for networking, and premium brand engagements featuring Guinness Ghana’s esteemed portfolio, including Guinness, Johnnie Walker, Heineken, and Malta Guinness.
Even unexpected rain showers later in the day did not dampen the spirits of participants. The energy remained high, with attendees fully engaged through the awards ceremony, a subsequent dinner, a live viewing experience of the UEFA Champions League, and an after-party.
Guinness Ghana’s Commitment to Community
Frédéric Féraille, Managing Director of Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC, emphasized the event’s significance beyond a mere golf tournament. “To us at Guinness Ghana, this tournament is about people, relationships and investing in a community that has welcomed us, challenged us, and given us a reason to keep coming back,” he stated.
Féraille further elaborated on the company’s long-term vision: “A partnership is a promise kept over time. We are not here for one good day and then gone tomorrow. We intend to stay, invest, and build something meaningful together.”
Strategic Partnership with Achimota Golf Club
A significant development announced during the championship was a new three-year partnership between Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC and the Achimota Golf Club. This collaboration will see Guinness Ghana supporting the club’s Monthly Medal competitions.
Additionally, the partnership aims to enhance the clubhouse experience through improved refreshment offerings, hospitality services, and increased brand visibility for Guinness Ghana.
Highlighting Top Performers and Collaborations
The championship saw impressive performances across various categories. Sena Ababio claimed victory in Category A Men, with Philip Ayesu and Ebo Anderson securing second and third places, respectively. In Category A Ladies, Letitia Amponsah-Mensah emerged as the winner, followed by Charity Vogel and Catherine Fabbi.
Other notable winners included Stephen Onaivi (Category B Men), Lucy Osei-Somuah (Category B Ladies), Kwaku Okyere (Seniors Men), and Elizabeth Essel-Koomson (Seniors Ladies). Majdi Joher received special recognition, winning both Longest Drive Men and Best Gross Men, while Mary Prempeh secured Best Gross Ladies.
The event’s success was amplified by the contributions of key partners. Caveman Watches collaborated with Guinness Ghana and Johnnie Walker on a special lifestyle feature. Devtraco Group supported the awards with premium hospitality rewards, and Vivo Energy, through Shell V-Power, contributed to celebrating performance and excellence.
These collaborations underscored the championship’s ethos: uniting strong Ghanaian and global brands to create memorable community experiences.
Values of Discipline and Respect
Dr. Felix Elvis Addo, Board Chairman of Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC, connected the championship to the company’s enduring values. “Golf is built on patience, discipline and respect. These are not only the marks of a good golfer; they are also the marks of a good business and a good citizen,” he remarked. “We are proud to support a platform where business, friendship and culture meet.”
The President of the Achimota Golf Club commended Guinness Ghana for hosting the championship at their facility and welcomed the three-year partnership as a crucial step in enhancing the club’s sporting and hospitality standards.
