Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Member of Parliament for Assin South and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, has refuted claims that Ghana’s Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill criminalizes essential services like counselling, healthcare, and pastoral support for individuals identifying as LGBTQ+.
Fordjour stated on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show that public discourse has conflated professional services with advocacy activities. He clarified that the bill’s intention is to prevent the promotion and encouragement of LGBTQ+ practices, not to penalize care and support.

The Assin South MP emphasized that the legislation specifically targets individuals and organizations actively campaigning for or encouraging LGBTQ+ practices. He argued that providing professional services does not equate to promoting LGBTQ+ lifestyles.
