Accra Ridge Church members and friends defied heavy rains on Saturday, June 6, 2026, to participate in a spirited health walk marking the church’s 90th anniversary. The event underscored the congregation’s resilience and commitment to fellowship and well-being, even amidst adverse weather conditions in Accra.
A Milestone Marked by Unity and Perseverance
Despite the downpour in the early hours of the day, a significant number of congregants turned out, clad in branded anniversary T-shirts and equipped with umbrellas. The walk, which traversed the streets of Ridge, symbolized the church’s enduring spirit and its nine decades of service to the community.
Following the march, participants engaged in aerobics exercises at the ARC HALL on the church premises. These sessions combined rhythmic music with stretching and strength training, offering a comprehensive wellness experience for all attendees.
A Year of Celebration and Spiritual Guidance
The health walk is just the beginning of a year-long celebration for Accra Ridge Church, founded in 1936. Rev. Fr. Reginald Lawson, Auxiliary Minister and Chairman of the Central Planning Committee for Ridge @ 90, outlined the extensive calendar of events.
Key activities planned include Anniversary Lectures, a Fundraising Dinner, Kids In Praise, Pentecost Fire, and a Musical Night. The celebrations will culminate in a grand Anniversary Celebration service on Sunday, December 6, 2026.
During his address, Rev. Fr. Lawson also shared a spiritual message, urging the youth to anchor their lives in faith. “Let God lead you in all your dealings. If we don’t allow God to lead our lives, it’s like putting the cart before the horse,” he advised, emphasizing the importance of divine guidance.
Understanding the Unique Identity of Accra Ridge Church
Danny Mawuenyega, Chairman of the Ridge Church Council, provided insight into the church’s distinct character. He described Accra Ridge Church as an international, interdenominational, and English-speaking congregation.
“Accra Ridge Church is an International, interdenominational and English-speaking Church made up of Anglicans, Methodists, and Presbyterians,” Mawuenyega stated. He further elaborated that the church welcomes members from other denominations, fostering a diverse and inclusive worship environment.
Nine Decades of Impact
Since its establishment in 1936, Accra Ridge Church has played a vital role in the Accra community. Its contributions extend beyond spiritual guidance to encompass educational initiatives and significant social impact programs.
Looking Ahead
The 90th-anniversary celebrations are set to highlight the church’s rich history and its ongoing commitment to its members and the wider community. The year’s events will likely foster deeper fellowship, encourage spiritual growth, and reaffirm the church’s mission of service. The success of the initial health walk, despite the challenging weather, sets a positive tone for the forthcoming activities, signaling a robust engagement from the congregation and its supporters throughout the anniversary year.
