Boankra Integrated Logistics Terminal Completion Urged for Job Creation and Economic Growth

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has stressed the critical need to complete the Boankra Integrated Logistics Terminal (BILT) in the Ashanti Region to unlock significant job creation opportunities for Ghana’s youth and stimulate economic benefits across the country. The call came during a high-level meeting at the Manhyia Palace where the Asantehene, alongside board members of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority and Ghana Shippers Authority, discussed the project’s progress and funding challenges.

Project Context and Importance

The Boankra Inland Port, a strategic dry port project, has been envisioned for over 19 years to bring cargo handling services closer to central and northern Ghana. It is considered a game-changer for revenue generation and economic development, aiming to serve not only the Ashanti Region but also the entire northern sector of the country.

The project is jointly financed by the Ghana Shippers Authority and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, with Justmoh Construction as a key contractor. Its completion is expected to create direct employment and indirect economic benefits along the entire value chain, from logistics to related services.

Concerns Over Delays and Financial Implications

Despite significant investment, the BILT project has faced persistent delays, missing multiple completion deadlines. The Asantehene expressed deep concern over these setbacks, warning that halting the project would result in substantial financial losses for the nation.
