President John Mahama announced a significant initiative to address the housing deficit for public sector workers, unveiling a Gh₵3 billion revolving fund designed to provide affordable homes. The program, developed in collaboration with organized labour and financial institutions, aims to ensure nurses, teachers, doctors, and civil servants can access safe and dignified housing with manageable long-term repayment plans. The announcement was made during the sod-cutting ceremony for the Green City Housing Initiative in the Ashanti Region.
A Collaborative Financing Framework
The cornerstone of this new housing scheme is an innovative financing framework anchored by the Gh₵3 billion revolving fund. This fund represents a partnership between the government, organized labour, and the private sector, including commercial banks.
This collaborative structure is intended to stimulate large-scale housing construction across urban areas. It also seeks to make long-term home ownership more accessible for the target demographic of public sector employees.
