Accra-Kumasi Expressway Timeline Defended Amidst Professional Skepticism

Accra, Ghana – May 13, 2026 – Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has firmly defended the government’s accelerated timeline for the Accra-Kumasi Expressway, attributing the ambitious schedule to deliberate policy choices aimed at fast-tracking national infrastructure development. His comments come in response to concerns voiced by Tony Asare, President of the Ghana Institute of Architects, who questioned the project’s feasibility within the proposed timeframe, citing the extensive planning typically required for such large-scale undertakings.

Addressing Project Timelines

Speaking to journalists during a road inspection in the Western Region, Minister Agbodza urged professional bodies to engage directly with the Ministry of Roads and Highways before publicly questioning government projects. He acknowledged that large infrastructure projects often face initial skepticism but asserted that their viability becomes evident as implementation progresses.

The Minister explained that the Accra-Kumasi Expressway project is employing an integrated approach, combining multiple work phases simultaneously.
