Medeama SC clinched the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League title on Saturday at the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium, defeating Heart of Lions 5-2 in a decisive match. The victory secured the Mauve and Yellow their second league championship with one game still remaining in the season, celebrated in front of their jubilant home supporters.
Title Secured in Style
The championship-winning performance saw Medeama SC dominate from the outset. Kelvin Obeng opened the scoring for the home side, setting the tone for the afternoon. Although Heart of Lions managed to equalize in the 40th minute, Medeama’s response was swift and decisive.
Obeng quickly netted his second goal just two minutes later, restoring Medeama’s lead to 2-1 heading into halftime. The second half witnessed Medeama extend their control over the match.
Derrick Fordjour was instrumental, scoring twice to further solidify Medeama’s advantage. Prince Owusu added a late fifth goal, completing the comprehensive rout. While Etse Dogli converted a penalty for Heart of Lions, it ultimately served only as a consolation in the face of Medeama’s superior performance.
Home Dominance Fuels Championship Run
Medeama SC’s formidable home record at the Tarkwa and Aboso Stadium was a critical factor in their title charge. Throughout the season, the team recorded an impressive 12 home wins, suffering only a single defeat on their home turf.
Their offensive prowess at home was evident, with 35 goals scored and a stingy defense that conceded just 11 goals at the TnA Stadium. This consistent performance in front of their fans provided a crucial advantage over their rivals.
Coach and CAF Champions League Qualification
Head coach Ibrahim Tanko has guided Medeama SC to league glory in what has been described as a memorable campaign. This league title not only marks a significant achievement for the club but also secures their coveted spot in next season’s CAF Champions League.
The club will conclude their league campaign with an away fixture against Hearts of Oak. This final match, though inconsequential to the title race, offers an opportunity to round off a successful season.
Looking Ahead: Continental Aspirations
With the Ghana Premier League title secured and a place in the CAF Champions League earned, Medeama SC now shifts its focus to continental competition. The team’s strong performance throughout the domestic season suggests they will be a formidable opponent on the African stage.
Fans will be eager to see how Medeama adapts to the challenges of the CAF Champions League, aiming to replicate their domestic success. The club’s recruitment and preparation for the upcoming continental tournament will be closely watched by supporters and analysts alike.
