Swiss sports brand On announced today its partnership with University of Louisville freshman track and field standout Elsingi Kipruto, adding one of the collegiate circuit’s most decorated young runners to its roster of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) athletes. The agreement marks a significant move for On in the burgeoning NIL landscape, leveraging Kipruto’s exceptional early-career performance.
A Historic Debut Season
Kipruto, hailing from Rongit village in Nandi County, Kenya, has made an immediate and profound impact in his first season with the Louisville Cardinals. The son of former 800m runner Gilbert Kipchoge and Teresa Chepngetich, Kipruto has quickly translated his disciplined upbringing and Kenyan running heritage into a series of record-breaking performances.
Since arriving in Louisville, Kipruto has established himself as a dominant force across both cross country and track events. His historic debut season includes shattering the school’s 5,000m record with a world-class time of 13:15.74 and clocking a blistering 27:29.83 in the 10,000m. He has proven to be a versatile talent, excelling on the cross country course as well as the indoor track.
Decorated Freshman Campaign
Kipruto’s achievements extend beyond mere record-breaking. He was named the ACC Men’s Cross Country Freshman of the Year and the ACC Men’s Indoor Freshman of the Year, underscoring his immediate impact on the conference level. Further solidifying his elite status, Kipruto earned First-Team All-American honors.
His indoor track performance was equally impressive, highlighted by a program-record 7:46.76 in the 3,000m. These accolades collectively cement his position as one of the most promising and versatile young distance runners in the nation.
On’s Strategic NIL Move
The partnership with Kipruto represents a strategic investment for On, a brand known for its innovative running shoe technology and growing presence in professional athletics. The NIL deal allows On to connect with a rising star at the collegiate level, building brand association and potential future ambassadorship.
“It is incredibly rare to see an athlete demonstrate such elite versatility so early in their career,” said Libby Davidson, Athlete Manager at On. “Whether it’s on the cross country course or the indoor track, Elsingi’s competitive spirit is undeniable. On and off the track his positive attitude is contagious. We are proud to welcome him to the On family.
