Accra, Ghana – May 19, 2024 – A senior official of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko-Computer, has issued a stern warning against rhetoric that crosses the line from constructive criticism to outright insult when discussing the government and national leaders. The Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the NDC made these remarks during an interview on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Tuesday, emphasizing that while democratic principles permit scrutiny, disrespectful or abusive language can harm national cohesion.
Defining the Boundaries of Criticism
Tanko-Computer articulated that the distinction between legitimate criticism and harmful insult is crucial for maintaining a healthy democratic environment. He stated that while citizens and opposition figures have the right to question government policies, language that devolves into abuse or threats is unacceptable.
