The Overlord of Mamprugu, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, has accused state security agencies of egregious abuses of power and demanded urgent investigations into alleged killings and mistreatment of Mamprusi youth connected to the ongoing Bawku conflict. The Nayiri issued these stern accusations at a press conference held in Nalerigu, highlighting a pattern of arbitrary arrests, unlawful detentions, torture, abductions, and extrajudicial killings targeting Mamprusi individuals.
Escalating Tensions and Failed Mediation
The Mamprugu King asserted that recent events surrounding the conflict and the handling of the peace mediation process have significantly eroded trust and intensified insecurity in the Bawku area. He stated that despite mediation efforts led by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the situation has continued to deteriorate, with the mediation outcome failing to bring calm. Instead, the Nayiri claimed it has exacerbated tensions within the traditional area.
