Accra, Ghana – Parliament is set to expedite the passage of the reintroduced anti-LGBTQ+ bill, with Majority Chief Whip Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor indicating it could be passed within days once debate commences this week. The announcement follows the completion of the committee stage, signaling a swift legislative process for the controversial bill.
Committee Completes Work, Bill Ready for Debate
The Majority Chief Whip, speaking on Tuesday, revealed that the parliamentary committee tasked with reviewing the bill has concluded its deliberations. Their report is scheduled to be laid before the House on Thursday.
Dafeamekpor explained that upon the report’s presentation, Parliament is prepared to move through the remaining legislative stages efficiently. This includes debating the principles for the second reading and adopting the bill.
