The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has issued a stark warning regarding fire safety compliance within the Kpone industrial enclave, highlighting the potential for a major fire outbreak to trigger severe economic repercussions and jeopardize Ghana’s energy security. Divisional Officer II Ebenezer Yenzu, speaking at a recent intersectoral review meeting organized by the Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly (KKMA), identified the enclave as a critical hub housing vital state-owned and private energy, oil, and gas facilities.
A High-Risk Industrial Hub
The Kpone industrial enclave is home to significant installations, including the Sunon Asogli Power Plant and key players in the oil and gas sector like Quantum LPG and Quantum Oil. This concentration of energy infrastructure places the area among the nation’s most sensitive industrial zones, inherently carrying substantial fire risks.
DO II Yenzu emphasized that a failure by operators in this enclave to strictly adhere to fire safety regulations could lead to a major industrial disaster with far-reaching national implications. Such an event could cripple the supply of essential oil and gas products, directly impacting electricity generation across the country.

In response to these concerns, the GNFS has ramped up its inspection and enforcement activities within the Kpone enclave. The GNFS provided recent statistics underscoring the urgency of the situation. Between January and April 2026, the Tema Region recorded a total of 318 fire outbreaks. Alarmingly, approximately a quarter of these incidents occurred within the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality.
The municipality is served by four fire stations strategically located at Katamanso, Akuse, the Industrial Area, and Community 25, indicating the service’s efforts to maintain coverage in this critical zone.

DO II Yenzu urged all industries and businesses operating within the Kpone enclave to make fire safety compliance a top priority.
