Dr. Kobbina Tuyee Awuah, CEO of Pinkberry Ghana, has strongly condemned the increasing violence and misconduct during inter-school athletic competitions, commonly known as ‘Interco’. Speaking on Joy Learning TV’s ‘The Career Trail’, he warned that students are missing the crucial networking opportunities these events are designed to provide.
In recent years, these senior high school sports festivals, once celebrated as youth talent hubs, have been increasingly marred by violent clashes, vandalism, and disciplinary breakdowns among rival student bodies. This trend has raised significant concerns among educators and corporate leaders.
From Rivalry to Respect: A Look Back
Reflecting on his own student days at Opoku Ware School (OWASS), Dr. Awuah recalled the ‘Interco’ games of his era as intense but fundamentally healthy. He emphasized a foundation of mutual respect and constructive rivalry that characterized those events.
