Accra, Ghana – Following a severe downpour that submerged parts of the capital, Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, announced an intensified government campaign to demolish unauthorized structures in flood-prone zones. The move aims to tackle Accra’s persistent flooding issues, which were starkly highlighted by Wednesday’s heavy rains that disrupted daily life and submerged key areas.
Inspection Reveals Critical Infrastructure Deficiencies
Minister Adjei led a tour of flood-affected communities, including Dome Pillar Two, where rising waters breached a local bridge, inundating nearby residences. During the inspection, the Minister observed that the current bridge design is insufficient to handle the volume of water during intense rainfall.
