The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has announced the establishment and activation of a Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) at the Presidency. This new unit aims to strengthen executive oversight of government promises and ensure timely completion of projects. The announcement was made during a town hall meeting in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital.
Government’s Internal Compliance Engine
The PDU is designed to function as the government’s internal compliance engine. Its core mandate involves conducting rigorous monthly reviews of all presidential commitments. This tracking mechanism will monitor every project and promise from its inception through to its final completion.
Mr. Debrah emphasized that the PDU is not a mere symbolic office but a practical audit tool. Its purpose is to guarantee that the reset of key economic sectors remains on schedule. The unit will produce monthly performance reports. These reports will evaluate the progress of ministries and departments against their set targets.
“At the presidency, there is an office called the Presidential Delivery Unit, and I have to ensure that every month I look at the report to see if the president was able to meet all the targets,” Mr. Debrah explained.

The era of indefinite project timelines is officially over, according to the Chief of Staff. His role is to ensure that the output of every government appointee aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s strategic vision for the nation.
“My duty is to ensure that every appointee under the government will work according to the wishes of the president,” he added.

In a significant move towards decentralised monitoring, the PDU will extend its reach beyond Accra. Teams from the unit are slated for deployment across the country. Their objective is to engage directly with individuals at the front lines of development, including traditional and opinion leaders.

This method aims to gather authentic insights into community needs and the actual progress of local projects. “Soon some persons from the presidency will come to you, the traditional leaders, to enquire of you the progress of the appointees within your jurisdiction,” the Chief of Staff informed the assembled chiefs and residents.
