Teacher Accused of Assaulting Student Over Mandatory All-Night Service at Amaniampong SHS

A final-year student at Amaniampong Senior High School in Ghana’s Ashanti Region is reportedly recovering at Ejisu Government Hospital following an alleged severe assault by a teacher. The incident, which occurred on campus, is said to have stemmed from the student’s refusal to participate in a compulsory all-night church service. The student’s mother has confirmed the event and is demanding justice, while the police have been notified and are expected to begin an investigation.

Background of the Incident

The alleged assault took place when the student, Emmanuel Kwarteng, a final-year student, was confronted in his dormitory. He was reportedly approached by a housemaster, identified as Gyamfi Charles of Asenso House, who demanded his attendance at a mandatory all-night religious service. Emmanuel allegedly refused to participate in the service, leading to a confrontation.

Accounts suggest the exchange escalated, culminating in the alleged physical abuse. Images and videos circulating, obtained by JoyNews, reportedly depict the teacher engaging in the assault. One visual shows the teacher over the student, who is on the floor, while others reportedly show injuries sustained by Emmanuel, including to his eye.

Victim’s Condition and Family’s Demands

Emmanuel Kwarteng is currently receiving medical attention at the Ejisu Government Hospital. His mother, Vida Kwarteng, has expressed significant distress over her son’s condition and the circumstances of the alleged assault.
