Accra, Ghana – Renowned legal expert Kwaku Ansa-Asare declared last Wednesday that Ghana’s inherited legal education system is fundamentally unfit for purpose and poses a significant risk to the nation’s justice delivery if not urgently overhauled. Speaking at a public lecture organized by MountCrest University College in Accra, Ansa-Asare, a former Director of Legal Education and founder of MountCrest University College, argued that the system, largely based on the English legal tradition, has failed to adapt to Ghana’s socio-economic realities, leaving the legal profession at a critical juncture.
Systemic Deficiencies Hinder Progress
Ansa-Asare asserted that the legal training model adopted by Ghana was not developed with the country’s specific circumstances in mind, leading to a disconnect between academic learning and practical application. He warned that continuing with the current trajectory would only exacerbate the existing crisis in legal education, preventing qualified law graduates from effectively transitioning into professional practice.
