Global Media Alliance (GMA) has officially partnered with the Department of Public Relations at the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) to co-host key events for the World PR Day Festival 2026. The collaboration, announced recently, aims to bridge the gap between academic theory and practical industry application within the public relations and communications sector.
Strengthening Academia-Industry Ties
This strategic alliance is designed to foster a more integrated approach to public relations education and practice. It underscores a growing recognition within the industry of the importance of academic insights in shaping future communication strategies.
UniMAC’s Public Relations Department will take the lead in organizing “The PR Dialogue,” the festival’s central event. Scheduled for July 16, 2026, this dialogue will serve as a crucial platform for an exchange of ideas.
The event is expected to convene a diverse group of participants. These will include seasoned communications professionals, leading academics, dedicated researchers, aspiring students, and influential industry leaders.
Discussions will focus on the evolving landscape of public relations. Key themes will encompass recent developments and the projected future trajectory of the profession.
Showcasing African Communication Heritage
Beyond The PR Dialogue, GMA and UniMAC will collaborate on curating the festival’s PR Arts Exhibition. This exhibition promises a unique exploration of traditional African communication systems and practices.
The exhibition’s content will be informed by extensive research conducted by UniMAC lecturers. It aims to highlight the rich history of communication within African societies.
Visitors can expect to see how symbols, artefacts, visual expressions, and cultural traditions have historically been employed. These elements were vital for conveying complex ideas and preserving valuable knowledge across various African communities.
Voices from the Partnership
Emma Wenani, Chief Director of Global Media Alliance, emphasized the significance of this collaboration. She stated that the partnership directly addresses the need for enhanced engagement between academic institutions and industry practitioners.
