Old Tafo Municipality Launches Major Clean-Up and Decongestion Drive at Atimatim Junction

The Old Tafo Municipality, in collaboration with assembly members, task force personnel, and residents, conducted a significant clean-up and decongestion exercise at Atimatim Junction on National Sanitation Day. The operation aimed to address persistent issues of encroachment, poor sanitation, and traffic congestion that have plagued the busy intersection, with authorities issuing a stern warning against unauthorized structures and unsanitary practices.

Context of the Operation

Atimatim Junction has long been a focal point for challenges related to urban planning and public health within the Old Tafo Municipality. Encroachment by traders and the placement of containers in unauthorized areas have contributed to severe traffic bottlenecks and obstructed drainage systems. These issues have, in turn, exacerbated flooding during the rainy season and created safety hazards for both pedestrians and motorists.

The exercise aligns with national directives promoting sanitation and orderly urban development. Municipal Chief Executive Abubakar Sadiq emphasized the importance of adhering to these directives, referencing calls from President John Dramani Mahama and Ashanti Regional Minister Frank Amoakohene for communities to prioritize cleanliness and proper planning.

Enforcement and Removal of Unauthorized Structures

A key objective of the operation was the removal of structures and containers situated in unauthorized locations. Municipal Chief Executive Abubakar Sadiq stated unequivocally that such encroachments would not be tolerated.
