Accra, Ghana – On Wednesday, in a significant address marking World Press Freedom Day at the British High Commissioner’s residence, Ghanaian Government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu unequivocally pledged the government’s commitment to protecting journalists and upholding the principles of press freedom throughout the nation. The statement came as a firm assurance to media practitioners amid growing global concerns about threats to journalistic independence and safety.
Democracy’s Bedrock: Journalism as a Vital Partner
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu emphasized that a healthy democracy is intrinsically linked to a free and unfettered press. He articulated that a government which fears scrutiny or seeks to silence its journalists is one that lacks confidence and is actively undermining its own democratic foundation.
