Ghana Prepares for Full Domestic Financing of Vaccines and Medicines as Global Fund Support Declines

Ghana is set to fully finance its own vaccines and critical medicines by 2030, with the government actively preparing its budget and systems to absorb the costs as support from the Global Fund gradually phases out by 2029. Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson announced these deliberate steps, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to a resilient and sustainable healthcare system.

Building Health System Resilience

The announcement came during a crucial meeting between Dr. Forson and Dr. Mohamed Yakub Janabi, the World Health Organization’s Regional Director for Africa, in Accra. The discussions centered on strengthening Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure and ensuring continuity of essential health services.
