The Ghana Police Service has issued a stern warning to social media content creators, stating they will pursue and arrest individuals engaging in criminal acts disguised as online content. This announcement follows the recent arrest of a suspect for posting a video threatening security personnel, highlighting growing concerns over the misuse of digital platforms for fear-mongering and illegal activities.
Rising Concerns Over Online Criminality
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Grace Ansah Akrofi revealed the service’s increasing alarm regarding the exploitation of social media for spreading fear, misinformation, and violent threats. The police service is actively monitoring these platforms to ensure they are not used as conduits for criminal behaviour.
