The Ghana Police Service has successfully prosecuted a driver, identified as Agyarko Richard, following the circulation of a viral video depicting his dangerous driving maneuvers on the Kumasi–Accra highway. The conviction, which occurred on May 8, 2026, at the La Motor Court, underscores the police’s commitment to enforcing road safety regulations and addressing public concerns fueled by the widely shared footage.

The incident gained widespread attention after a video emerged on social media, showing Agyarko Richard operating a Toyota Voxy vehicle (registration number EN 551-26) in a manner that endangered other road users. The footage prompted an immediate response from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service.

These included driving on the wrong side of the road, causing obstruction, and exhibiting careless and inconsiderate driving practices. Agyarko Richard appeared before the La Motor Court, presided over by Adwoa Sakyi Asumadu. Faced with the evidence captured in the viral video and presented charges, he entered a guilty plea to all offenses.
As a consequence of his plea, the court convicted Mr. Richard. He was sentenced to pay a fine of 260 penalty units, amounting to GH¢3,120.00. In default of this payment, he faces a custodial sentence of 15 days imprisonment with hard labour.
Furthermore, the court imposed an additional sentence of two months’ imprisonment with hard labour, sending a clear message about the severity of his actions.
