KNUST Security Guard Faces Additional Robbery Charge in Assault Case

A 56-year-old security guard accused of sexually assaulting two female students at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) now faces an additional robbery charge. The amended charge sheet, presented by police prosecutors on Friday, May 8, 2026, before the Asokore Mampong District Court, includes robbery alongside previous rape and sextortion charges related to a 23-year-old complainant.

Initial Charges and First Incident

The accused, Lloyd Kwaku Boateng, employed at the Ayeduase Roman Catholic Junior High School, was initially charged with rape. This charge stemmed from an alleged assault involving a 22-year-old KNUST student.

According to Chief Inspector Samuel Agyare, the first incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. on February 13, 2026, on the Ayeduase Roman Catholic School compound. Prosecutors stated that Boateng allegedly confronted the 22-year-old student and her boyfriend, accusing them of engaging in sexual activity.

Police allege that Boateng assaulted the boyfriend, confiscated their mobile phones and room keys, and demanded GH¢300. He then allegedly forced the young man to leave the school premises.

Following this, prosecutors claim Boateng dragged the female student into a classroom, overpowered her, and raped her despite her resistance.

Second Incident and Amended Charges

Nearly two months later, on April 4, 2026, a second female student, aged 23, filed a similar complaint with the KNUST Police. This led to the amended charge sheet presented to the court.

Prosecutors informed the court that the second complainant and her boyfriend were on the school compound at night, reportedly seeking fresh air. Boateng allegedly approached them, using school rules as a pretext.

The accused reportedly intimidated the couple and separated the complainant from her boyfriend. He is alleged to have held her hostage until the early hours of April 5.
