Juapong Gears Up for Economic Boost with New 24-Hour Market Construction

The North Tongu District Assembly has officially handed over the site for the construction of an ultra-modern 24-hour economy market in Juapong, Volta Region. This significant development, marked by a ceremony on May 8, aims to invigorate commercial activities and foster economic growth as part of the government’s national 24-hour economy policy.

Laying the Foundation for Economic Transformation

The handover ceremony brought together key stakeholders, including Assembly officials, traditional leaders, contractors, consultants, and community members. This collaborative effort signals a unified commitment to advancing the project, which is designed to be a cornerstone of economic development in the region.

District Chief Executive, Madam Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe, highlighted the market’s strategic importance during the event. She described it as a vital investment intended to broaden economic prospects, enhance trading infrastructure, and generate sustainable employment opportunities for the residents of North Tongu and surrounding areas.

The new market facility is a testament to the Assembly’s dedication to infrastructural development and the empowerment of the local economy. It is particularly focused on supporting traders and small-scale entrepreneurs who are the backbone of the Juapong commercial landscape.

A Conducive Environment for Continuous Commerce

Madam Doe emphasized that the market’s design and features will provide a well-organized and supportive trading environment. This is crucial for facilitating round-the-clock commercial activities, aligning with the government’s vision of a dynamic and responsive 24-hour economy.

NIMANT Company Limited has been appointed as the contractor responsible for the construction. PPMC will oversee the project as consultants, ensuring adherence to quality standards and timely completion of the development.

The District Chief Executive extended her gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for his unwavering support for infrastructure and economic development initiatives nationwide. Special recognition was also given to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu and Minister for Foreign Affairs, and James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, for their continuous backing of the district’s development agenda.

Boosting Juapong’s Commercial Standing

The North Tongu District Assembly remains resolute in its pursuit of policies and projects that stimulate economic growth, attract investment, and improve the overall socio-economic well-being of its constituents. The 24-hour market is expected to significantly amplify trading volumes and establish Juapong as a premier commercial center within the district.

This initiative is anticipated to create a ripple effect, benefiting not only local traders but also stimulating ancillary services and businesses. The enhanced infrastructure is poised to attract more economic activity, positioning Juapong for sustained growth and prosperity.

Looking Ahead: What to Watch Next

The successful completion of this market project will be a key indicator of the effectiveness of the 24-hour economy policy at the local level. Observers will be watching for the timeline of construction, the immediate impact on local businesses, and how the market’s operational framework supports continuous commerce. The long-term success will depend on robust management, continued community engagement, and the integration of technology to support trading activities around the clock. Further developments in infrastructure and support services for traders will also be crucial to monitor.
