Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, has initiated a series of high-level consultations within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as he prepares to contest the position of National Chairman. The Ashanti Regional Chairman met separately with Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia and former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in Accra recently, signaling his formal entry into the race ahead of the party’s national executive elections.
Stakeholder Engagement Underway
The meetings are a strategic move by Chairman Wontumi to engage with influential figures within the NPP following his decision to vie for the national chairmanship. His campaign team, in a statement signed by Media and Communications Director Ewuradjoa Coleman, highlighted the purpose of these engagements.
During the courtesy calls, Chairman Wontumi expressed gratitude to both Dr. Bawumia and former President Akufo-Addo for their contributions to the party’s efforts to rebuild and reposition itself following the 2024 general elections.
He specifically commended their leadership and commitment during a critical period for the NPP.
Pledging Loyalty and Unity
Chairman Wontumi used the opportunity to reaffirm his unwavering loyalty to the NPP. He pledged his support for initiatives aimed at strengthening the party’s foundations in preparation for the 2028 general election.
He officially informed both leaders of his intention to contest the National Chairmanship position once nominations are opened.
The aspirant articulated that his ambition is driven by a desire for service, fostering unity, and enhancing grassroots mobilization for the collective rebuilding of the party.
Assurances were given to the party leadership that his campaign would prioritize issue-based discourse and internal unity over divisive tactics.
According to the statement, Chairman Wontumi committed to a campaign that would be disciplined, respectful, and focused on strengthening internal cohesion, explicitly avoiding personal attacks, divisiveness, intimidation, or actions that could weaken the party’s structures or leadership.
