A five-member delegation from Ghana’s Youth Ambassadors in Diplomacy and Model United Nations LBG (YAD MUN LBG) will travel to the Kingdom of the Netherlands from June 5 to June 7, 2026, to participate in the 32nd Session of the International Model United Nations of Alkmaar (IMUNA 2026). The invitation, extended by the IMUNA Board of Directors, marks a significant opportunity for young Ghanaian leaders to engage in UN-style simulations and intercultural exchanges.
Context: Fostering Youth Diplomacy
The International Model United Nations of Alkmaar is a well-established event renowned for cultivating leadership, negotiation skills, public speaking abilities, and fostering international cooperation among global youth. This year’s 32nd session will be held at the Murmellius Gymnasium in Alkmaar, bringing together students, academics, diplomats, and youth leaders from around the world.
Model United Nations (MUN) simulations are designed to replicate the workings of the United Nations, where participants represent different countries and debate pressing global issues. These activities are crucial for developing a deeper understanding of international relations, diplomacy, and multilateral problem-solving.
Delegation and Conference Scope
The Ghanaian delegation comprises key figures from YAD MUN LBG, including Executive Director Joseph Essuman Arthur, Head of Partnerships Ransford Kojo Essilfie, Deputy General Secretary Eugene Ofosu, Student Representative Morris Davidson Ansah, and YAD MUN Schools Club member Heavens Achiaa Paintsil. Their travel dates are set for June 4 to June 8, 2026.
At IMUNA 2026, participants will engage in rigorous debates, negotiations, and policy drafting sessions. The agenda will focus on critical contemporary challenges such as climate change, global peace and security, migration, human rights, sustainable development, and the strengthening of international cooperation.
YAD MUN LBG’s Mission and Impact
According to YAD MUN LBG, this participation directly supports its core mission of building international partnerships with other MUN bodies, diplomatic institutions, and youth leadership organizations. These collaborations are vital for enhancing global engagement and empowering Ghanaian youth.
The organization has been actively implementing its Schools Club Project across various educational levels in Ghana. This initiative aims to promote diplomacy education, leadership development, civic participation, and cultivate a sense of global citizenship among young Ghanaians. The project seeks to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to become active participants in national and international affairs.
Leveraging the Platform for Growth
In a statement, YAD MUN LBG highlighted that the delegation intends to utilize the IMUNA 2026 platform strategically. They aim to learn from international best practices in diplomacy and youth engagement, forge new strategic partnerships, and identify opportunities that will foster the growth and expansion of YAD MUN LBG’s programs within Ghana.
This international exposure is expected to provide invaluable insights and connections that will benefit not only the delegates but also the wider network of young people involved with YAD MUN LBG in Ghana. The experience will equip them with a broader perspective on global issues and effective methods for addressing them.
Future Implications and What to Watch
The participation of the Ghanaian youth delegation at IMUNA 2026 underscores the growing engagement of young Africans in international discourse and diplomacy. It signals a commitment to developing future leaders equipped to tackle complex global challenges.
Moving forward, it will be important to observe how the insights and partnerships gained at IMUNA 2026 are integrated into YAD MUN LBG’s programs. The success of these efforts could serve as a model for other youth organizations in Ghana and across the continent seeking to enhance diplomatic education and international cooperation among their members.
