The Church of Pentecost, in collaboration with local and international partners, officially launched its 2026 Medical Missions Outreach in Abesewa, Ashanti Region, on Thursday, May 14. This initiative aims to address critical healthcare gaps in the region by providing free medical services, including surgeries and specialized care, to underserved communities.
Addressing Critical Healthcare Needs
Abesewa and its surrounding areas face significant challenges in accessing quality medical care, surgical interventions, and essential health services. Many families struggle to afford the cost of treatment, leaving preventable conditions untreated.
The outreach offers a holistic ministry, tending to the physical, social, and spiritual needs of the community. By combining expert medical care with free services, the church aims to demonstrate practical Christianity and make a tangible impact on residents’ lives.
A Global Network of Support
This ambitious project is powered by a robust network of partners. Key collaborators include PENSA International, Pentecost Social Services, Pentecost Hospital-Abesewa, IMAGHE World Foundation, Bechem Government Hospital, and Pentecost University.
Apostle Ebenezer Hagan, the Youth Director of the Church, highlighted that the Abesewa Medical Outreach Program is integral to the church’s strategic vision. This vision, he explained, mirrors the ministry of Jesus Christ, who focused on healing the sick and meeting material needs alongside spiritual evangelism.
Pastor Kofi Owusu Boakye, the PENSA International Coordinator, noted the mobilization of young professionals from around the globe. They are participating to exemplify practical Christianity by directly addressing both spiritual and physical needs on a global scale.
Proven Track Record in Social Intervention
The Church of Pentecost has a well-established history of social interventions. Pastor Benjamin Asare Yeboah, Director of Pentecost Social Services, revealed that the church currently operates 13 health facilities across Ghana.
Last year alone, these facilities provided free healthcare to over 249,000 individuals. This extensive experience forms a strong foundation for the current outreach.
Building on Past Successes
The 2026 outreach builds directly upon the success of the 2025 mission in Kpassa, Oti Region. That mission provided free medical screenings and consultations to over 1,100 people and successfully performed 61 surgeries.
Beyond medical aid, the Kpassa outreach also saw 457 individuals accept Christ and provided vital health education and mentorship to hundreds of students and community members.
Operational Roadmap and Scope
The Abesewa outreach will commence with an intensive pre-screening phase from June to July 2026. This phase aims to identify and prepare patients for medical intervention well in advance.
The main outreach event is scheduled from October 2 to October 18, 2026. A large team of 125 to 150 personnel, comprising medical professionals, pastors, students, and volunteers from the US and Ghana, will be deployed.
Free surgical procedures will be conducted at the Pentecost Hospital in Abesewa. These will include hernia repairs, excision biopsies, and thyroidectomies that do not require extensive post-operative care.
To maximize patient capacity, Bechem Government Hospital will offer overflow and specialized surgical services. This dual-site approach allows medical teams to operate concurrently, significantly increasing the number of patients served.
Comprehensive Medical Services Offered
Michael Asiama Okyere, Ghana-Country Director for IMAGHE World Foundation, assured residents of high-quality care. The partners are bringing top-tier professionals, including doctors, lab technicians, pharmacists, and allied health experts.
Patients can expect a wide range of services. These include blood pressure checks, glucose monitoring, hepatitis B testing, malaria screenings, and cervical cancer screenings. Full laboratory diagnostics will also be available.
Specialized gynecological services will be provided at Bechem Government Hospital. Advanced eye examinations and vision screenings will be part of the ophthalmological care offered.
Comprehensive pharmaceutical dispensing and medication support will be in place. Established referral pathways will ensure that complex or chronic cases requiring long-term care are managed effectively.
Future Outlook
The success of the Abesewa outreach is expected to strengthen healthcare access in the region and serve as a model for future interventions. The church and its partners will continue to monitor the long-term health outcomes for patients and assess the impact on community well-being. Attention will also be on how such large-scale, multi-partner medical missions can be sustained and replicated in other underserved areas, both within Ghana and internationally, further fulfilling the church’s mandate of holistic ministry.
