Accra, Ghana – The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has raised serious concerns regarding a GH¢35.8 million expenditure claimed by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation for the deployment of 6,000 police officers during the 2023 African Games. The committee is questioning the validity of this claim due to a lack of supporting documentation, a situation compounded by a separate GH¢455,000 bill for hostel accommodation also lacking justification.
Scrutiny Over Unsubstantiated Claims
During parliamentary proceedings on Monday, May 18, the Ranking Member of the PAC, Samuel Atta-Mills, highlighted the significant sum presented without any verifiable evidence. He expressed disbelief that such a large amount could be allocated without proper substantiation.
