Senior High Schools Flag Ghana Buffer Stock Company Over Missing Food Cost Details

Two Senior High School heads have raised serious concerns regarding the Ghana National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), alleging a persistent failure since the start of 2024 to provide essential cost details for food supplies. This lack of transparency, revealed during Public Accounts Committee (PAC) proceedings, hinders crucial auditing processes and accountability checks for government expenditure on school feeding programs. The Auditor-General’s office had previously flagged documentation gaps related to significant quantities of food delivered to various schools.

Lack of Financial Transparency in Food Deliveries

School administrators report that deliveries from NAFCO are frequently accompanied only by waybills or invoices that omit crucial monetary values. This practice makes it exceedingly difficult for the schools to independently verify or accurately account for the financial worth of the food items they receive. The situation was highlighted by Hassana Yahya, Headmistress of Ahamansu Islamic Senior High School, who stated that repeated requests to NAFCO for full financial particulars have gone unanswered.
