The Global Youth Network (GYN) officially inducted its inaugural cohort of 10 Ghanaian members on Sunday, May 17, signaling the commencement of an ambitious 20-country tour aimed at mentoring and training emerging leaders across diverse societal sectors. The initiative seeks to proactively prepare young individuals for future leadership roles.
The induction ceremony, a collaborative effort hosted by the World Conference of Mayors Inc. and Relevant Achievers Impacting Nations (RAIN), convened a distinguished assembly of traditional leaders, clergy, business executives, civil society representatives, and academics. This gathering underscored the broad support and recognition for the GYN’s mission.
Context: Building Tomorrow’s Leaders Today
The Global Youth Network operates on the principle that proactive development of future leaders is crucial for sustained progress. Its core objective, as articulated by its Head, Author Ralph Antwi, is to “secure tomorrow today.” This involves equipping the next generation with the skills, vision, and experience necessary to not only match but surpass the achievements of current leaders.
Antwi emphasized this philosophy, stating, “You can only be said to be successful if you produce successors who do better than you.” This highlights a commitment to fostering exponential growth and continuous improvement within leadership pipelines.
The Induction and the Tour
The 10 Ghanaian inductees were chosen based on their proven leadership capabilities and their active involvement in projects focused on youth empowerment, philanthropy, mentorship, and community development. During the ceremony, they took an oath, pledging their dedication to the GYN’s vision and committing to exert their utmost effort for its successful realization.
Jimmie Gardner, Secretary General of the World Conference of Mayors Inc. and a two-time Mayor of Prichard, Alabama, served as the Guest of Honour. Gardner welcomed the new members into a “global family of changemakers” and urged them to “unite around the vision of securing tomorrow today and lead with purpose.” Gardner also used the occasion to launch his book, “Africatown: The Story That Would Not Die.”
