The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) has sealed off sections of the Ashaiman China Mall warehouse in Accra, Ghana, following the discovery of products, including mattresses and electrical appliances, suspected of being manufactured with substandard materials. The operation, which took place on Tuesday, May 19th, is part of a wider GSA initiative to rid the Ghanaian market of inferior goods and protect consumers.
Enforcement Operation Targets Inferior Goods
The GSA’s action at the Ashaiman China Mall warehouse represents a significant enforcement step in its ongoing efforts to combat the proliferation of substandard products. This particular operation focused on identifying and removing items that do not meet the country’s safety and quality benchmarks.
During the inspection, officials sampled various products. Among the items flagged were electrical bulbs and mattresses, which were found to be below acceptable quality standards. The GSA stated that these products pose potential risks to consumers.
Quality Tests Reveal Safety Hazards
Clement Kubati, the Regional Manager of the Ghana Standards Authority, addressed the media following the operation. He revealed that initial quality tests yielded concerning results.
