Fathers Urged to Lead Mother’s Day Celebrations with Support and Respect

Accra, Ghana – As Mother’s Day approaches, Sheikh Aremeyaw Shaibu, spokesperson for the National Chief Imam, is calling upon fathers across Ghana to champion the celebration by actively demonstrating respect and support for mothers. The call, made in anticipation of the global observance, emphasizes that honoring mothers should transcend mere material gifts and perfunctory messages, demanding instead a reflection of genuine gratitude and exemplary conduct from children, guided by their fathers.

Beyond Gifts: A Call for Deeper Appreciation

Sheikh Shaibu articulated that the essence of Mother’s Day lies in acknowledging the profound sacrifices mothers make. He stressed that fathers bear a crucial responsibility to instill this appreciation in their children.

This guidance, he explained, can manifest through various actions, including leading in prayer for mothers, actively participating in household chores, and consistently expressing verbal and demonstrative appreciation for their contributions.

Fathers as Pillars of Support

The spokesperson highlighted the role of husbands and fathers as supportive partners. “For any father or husband who’s caring, the virtues will tell you that you have to be supportive of your wife,” he stated.

He further elaborated on this, drawing an analogy: “The women are the weaker vessel. When somebody is weak, you don’t take advantage of the weak. That’s where you hold her by the hand and give her the support. Respect and bring comfort to her.” This emphasizes a proactive approach to partnership and care within the family structure.

Sheikh Shaibu urged fathers to be deliberate in their efforts. “So we want to encourage all fathers. The fathers who are present, let mothers feel your support and value of being a mother,” he implored.

Community Celebrations and Family Experiences

In conjunction with these calls for familial reflection, community events are being organized to facilitate shared celebrations. Joy FM’s Mother’s Day Out at Crown Forest on May 9 offers families an opportunity to create lasting memories.

The event promises a range of activities designed for a relaxed outdoor experience, including horse riding, quad biking, safari tours, and friendly competitions. These activities aim to provide a fun and engaging environment for families to celebrate mothers.

Organizers have made provisions for interested participants to reserve slots, with specific packages available for mothers and their accompanying family members. This initiative, a collaboration between Joy FM and Crown Forest, seeks to blend natural leisure with celebratory family time.

Looking Ahead: The Evolving Role of Fathers

Sheikh Shaibu’s message underscores a broader societal conversation about the active role fathers can and should play in family life, particularly in recognizing and honoring the maternal figures within their homes. The emphasis on fathers leading by example suggests a forward-looking perspective on family dynamics, where shared responsibilities and visible appreciation become cornerstones of healthy relationships.

As Mother’s Day celebrations unfold, the impact of this call to action will be observed in the intentional efforts by fathers to not only acknowledge but actively demonstrate their support and gratitude, potentially reshaping traditions and strengthening family bonds for the future.
