Accra, Ghana – The Centre for Democratic Movement (CDM) on Monday condemned the prolonged closure of the newly constructed Weija Paediatric Hospital, labeling it a stark illustration of governmental failure and administrative paralysis. The group highlighted that the hospital, despite being completed and equipped, remains inaccessible to the public due to ongoing administrative delays and procurement disputes, leaving many families struggling to access critical pediatric healthcare.
Context of Healthcare Access Challenges
The Weija Paediatric Hospital was intended to significantly bolster healthcare services for children in the Greater Accra Region. Its closure comes at a time when healthcare infrastructure and accessibility are pressing concerns for many Ghanaian citizens.
The situation at Weija is not isolated, with CDM also pointing to delays and operational issues within the broader Agenda 111 healthcare projects across the nation. These projects aim to establish or upgrade district hospitals, a crucial step in decentralizing and strengthening the national health system.
