Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, has called upon Christians to actively defend core biblical principles against what he describes as “alien doctrines” and modern practices deviating from the faith. The urgent appeal was made during the Biennial National Ministers’ Wives Conference held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, where thousands of pastors’ wives gathered.
Context: A Shifting Theological Landscape
The contemporary Christian landscape is characterized by a diversity of interpretations and the increasing influence of secular philosophies. This has led to concerns among some church leaders about the potential dilution or outright rejection of traditional theological tenets. The Assemblies of God, Ghana, like many other denominations, is navigating these challenges, seeking to maintain its doctrinal integrity while engaging with a rapidly evolving world.
